What - are you kidding divya? I am sure this is what comes to mind when a viewer reads this post. Well this may be easy for expert cooks but for a person like me who din't know where the salt or sugar in the kitchen was some years ago, this is for them: the starters in the field of cooking.
Anything getting cooked has a cooking time and I totally agree to this point because we cannot eat things that are over cooked or under cooked. This goes for Eggs too. Boiling eggs is also an art because if your eggs are not perfectly boiled then they will be difficult to peel, hard inside or sometimes greasy. Some people say the method I describe below loses eggs' proteins and some say starting with cold water takes a long time in cooking process and some just boil egg and water and switch off and let the egg sit for some time in that water.
Anyway, it is this method that gives me eggs boiled just right without getting them harder or uncooked. So to get that perfectly boiled, soft and peel easy eggs - here we go ;)
Ingredients:
Eggs - 5 no's (or how many you need to boil)
Water - 5 cups (1 cup per egg)
Salt - 1 teaspoon
Method:
- Boil water in a pan. Add salt and eggs and set the heat to medium.
- Allow the eggs to cook exactly 10 minutes. Switch off stove and drain the boiled water and replace with cold water.
- Let it sit for 3 minutes, drain the water and peel the eggs.
- Your perfectly Boiled eggs are ready.
I do it the same way too.. perfect every time

DeleteThank you! I never used to get it right!
ReplyDeleteThank you jithin..i appreciate it
Deletethere is definitely nothing wrong with this post divya... i also do it the same way you do but after loads of trial and error... even though i love gooey yolk centres, it is not to everybody's liking, right... :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that...i love that gooey yolk when i cut a boiled egg in middle, but any one else in family "That's a big NO"...now its this way i follow to get them perfect :) thank you rafee
DeleteI do exactly the same way! Helpful post though! ;-)

i am so happy that many follow the same way because i heard this method looses eggs protein....thank you rita
DeleteWow! Useful post Divya... Thanks for sharing :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you nilu
Deletei follow the same method divya.. nice pictures..
ReplyDeleteThank you PT
DeleteBut do you get that green ring around the yolk? I wish you had taken a picture of one cut in half, so we could see the inside!
ReplyDeleteI never saw any green ring around the yolk, whiteoval with clean yellow yolk...will take a picture and update for sure...thank you, hope i had your name :)
DeleteAgreed Divya. The yolks will not become black on the outer when the eggs are soaked immediately after boiling.
ReplyDeleteWow...i didnot know that...thats a good tip navan...thank you
DeleteI do the same way Divi. But when I am pressed with time, I pressure cook eggs for 3 whistles. I have seen adding salt helps in boiling eggs evenly. Also the cold water prevents the shell from sticking to the egg. But I don't soak it for long. I just remove the hot water and pour some ice cold water over the eggs and start peeling them one by one. And that gives a perfectly boiled egg with the bright yellow and soft egg yolk.
ReplyDeleteSomething totally new to me radhi...i never knew we can pressure cook them. got to try this method too. i let it sit in the cold water for 2 to 3 min so to cool it down get the shells removed clearly...thank you radhi
DeleteDivya ,I follow the same method oh it drains the protein eh!didn't know that.
ReplyDeleteI use a small piece of thread to cut the eggs into slices so the yolk does not crumble even a bit. Of course discard the thread after that:)
i heard that way..but am following the same steps still..thank you meena
DeleteI do pressure cooker method and its quite quicker than this method, i do add salt while boiling egg in pressure cooker too. When time permits do try the pressure cooker method,am sure you will love it.
ReplyDeleteSure priya...will try and tell you next time...thank you
Deletei do in similar way...Happy to follow you Divya.... visit me...when time permits.

Deleteoh thats a good idea Divs..I suck at boiling eggs...Most of the time it will be gooey inside but lately my mum told me to use pressure cooker and cook for just one whistle and then i put in cold water...but now if i want to make it without cooker i know how long,10 mins..will set the timer and do it :)
ReplyDeleteGood to know you use pressure cooker to cook eggs...got to try this method soon...Thank you vineetha
Deletelovely clicks...Nice post

ReplyDeleteThank you shabbu
DeleteThe green ring forms when you overheat the egg, causing hydrogen and sulfur in the egg white to react and form hydrogen sulfide gas. The hydrogen sulfide reacts with iron in the egg yolk to form a grayish-green compound where the white and yolk meet. While the color isn't particularly appetizing, it's fine to eat. You can keep the yolk from turning green by chilling the eggs as soon as they have finished cooking. One way to do this is by running cold water over the hot eggs as soon as the cooking time has elapsed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting this know in detail
DeleteGreat post, I too add salt while cooking eggs.
